Central Region Athletes Lead Conference

Central Region athletes Diane Budnar and Raymell Temaungil joined 1,000 law enforcement officers at the 25th Annual International Law Enforcement Torch Run Conference in Buffalo, New York. Along with four other Special Olympics New York athlets, Diane and Raymell acted as emcees for every general session during the four day conference. While not speaking to the crowd, they met law enforcement officers from 42 different states and countries, participated in classes, attended dinners and even took a trip across the border to Canada! Above, Diane and Raymell try to extend some Central New York warmth to officers from Hawaii. Both young women did an amazing job, and helped to show why it is important for law enforcement officers to help support Special Olympics. Thank you Diane and Raymell!

Each 10-member team was timed pulling the 45,000 pound fire truck 20 feet. The winning team was made up of players from the Abner Doubledays who teamed up with a few Special Olympics athletes. Other teams included; Cayuga Corrections Facility, Wal-Mart, Destiny Design, Southern Springs, Auburn Correctional Facility, and a second team of Special Olympic atheltes. A great time was had by all, and best of all the event raised almost $10,000. That money can be used to send more than 30 athletes to Special Olympic competitions.
